Emergency referrals for childbirth in rural Tanzania face severe challenges that jeopardize the lives of pregnant women. Emergency healthcare facilities are often distant, under-equipped, and lack professional services. Poor road conditions and a shortage of ambulances make transportation to these facilities difficult, increasing the risk of fatalities. Rural health centers frequently lack essential medical equipment and medications. Additionally, inadequate education about maternal health and ineffective referral systems contribute to delays in emergency care. These issues urgently need to be addressed to improve survival rates for mothers and their children. TibaSalama is dedicated to addressing these challenges by providing timely and effective healthcare services.
Objective: Challenge yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually by joining TibaSalama in climbing the world’s highest freestanding mountain (5,895 meters) and standing on the Roof of Africa. This adventure is not only about reaching the summit but also about raising funds to enhance emergency healthcare services for pregnant women in rural Tanzania.
Purpose: This campaign uniquely combines the thrill of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with the crucial mission of improving maternal health support. We invite adventure enthusiasts from around the world to participate in this iconic climb, contributing to Kilimanjaro’s reputation as one of the “Seven Summits.” The climb is more than a personal achievement; it’s an opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of mothers and children in need.
Fundraising for Emergency Healthcare Services:
The primary goal is to raise funds to enhance emergency healthcare services. Donations will be used to purchase essential equipment such as transportation, cover payments for community health workers (CHWs) and drivers, and provide basic door-to-door health education for pregnant women, along with training for healthcare providers and CHWs. This aims to improve the delivery of quality services in communities where healthcare is largely inadequate. This is especially critical in rural areas, where delays in reaching hospitals or giving birth at home without professional support, combined with the continuation of outdated customs and practices, are major contributors to the high mortality rates among pregnant women and newborns.
Fund Allocation:

The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the oldest and most established trekking route on Mount Kilimanjaro. It remains highly popular due to its hut accommodation for trekkers. For a detailed day-by-day itinerary, click here.
